Nobody in San Jose should go a day without food.
Reconçu brings food, water, and essentials directly to people living on the street in San Jose, California. We hand them out ourselves, in person, no application and no waiting list.
It started with buttons, beads, and lace.
Reconçu began as a studio practice making handmade jewelry and accessories. Chokers, bows, and pieces built from buttons, beads, and salvaged lace. Selling that work raised the first dollars behind this organization, and every one of them went back out into the community.
We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit in San Jose. What we do is simple and immediate: we buy food, pack it, and take it to the people who need it, where they already are.
A lot of people in San Jose go a whole day without a real meal, sometimes a few blocks from a grocery store. That is the gap we are trying to close first.
We bring clothing, hygiene supplies, and school supplies too, because food is where it starts and not where it ends.
Neighbors, not statistics.
Santa Clara County has one of the largest unsheltered populations in the country, and the people living in it are our neighbors.
They are parents working shifts that do not cover rent. Kids starting a school year without a notebook. Adults with a job interview and nothing clean to wear to it. Seniors on a fixed income choosing between groceries and everything else.
We go to them. There is no application and no eligibility screening. If someone is hungry, they get food.
Food first. Then everything else a person needs.
The core of the work
Prepared sandwiches, bottled water, and shelf stable food, packed and carried out on regular outreach runs across San Jose.
Blankets and coats
Blankets, socks, and warm layers when the temperature drops. Nights get cold here in a way people outside the city do not expect.
Fresh Start Clothing Program
Clean clothing in usable condition, professional attire for adults heading into job interviews, and outfits for students who need them for school and milestone events.
Hygiene kits
Soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products, assembled into kits and handed out on every run.
Backpacks that are full
Backpacks packed with notebooks, pencils, folders, and the rest of the supply list, for children in families we meet through our outreach.
What your gift builds this year.
Reconçu is in its first full year of programming. These are our 2026 goals, and what your support goes toward.

Every dollar leaves as food, water, or supplies.
A gift becomes something a person can eat, drink, wear, or carry into a classroom, usually within the week.
